The Rumor Mill has reports from DEP records that Shell Appalachia, Rex Energy, Chesapeake and Range Resources are all experimenting with drilling two and up to three layers of shale from the same drilling site: typically a combination of Marcellus, Utica, and one of the “upper devonian” layers of shale (Burket, Genesee, Rhinestreet, etc.).
